Types of Gas Credit Card Rebates
Generally speaking, there are 3 types of gas credit card rebate plans. They can be classified as follows:
- Cash Back - This type of rebate involves getting cash back rebates, based on the amount of purchases
made. Typically, the rebate can "exercised" during any month following the time of purchase. For example,
if there is a 5 % cash back rebate, then a purchase of $ 200 in gasoline and/or automobile expenses will
result in 5 %, or $ 10, becoming available in the form of a cash back rebate. Cash back rebates can be
requested in check form from the credit card company, or more typically, can be applied to any future
balances.
- Points per Dollar - This type of rebate has the card holder accruing a certain number of "points",
based on each purchase made. The points are typically cumulative (i.e., they do not expire), and can be
be redeemed in cash, free travel, gift cards, and purchases and various stores.
- Miles per Dollar - This type of rebate has the card holder accruing a certain number of frequent
flyer "miles" based on each purchase made. These miles are usually redeemed for airline tickets, but
sometimes can be redeemed for cash as well.
